Anthropology 22.1 Old World Prehistory

This is a general course syllabus modified when the course is taught

Course structure: This is a survey course, covering the history and development of human culture and cultures n the Old World from over 3 million years ago to the beginning of written records (5000 - 500 years ago, depending on the area). There will be lectures, discussions, several quizzes, a term paper, and a final. These components will count in the following fashion:

Class participation 20%
Bibliography (midterm project) 20%
Term Paper 15%
Quizzes 15%
Final (Cumulative) 30%

Midterm Project: For the midterm project, there will be an annotated bibliography, worth 20 percent of the final grade.

Quizzes: There will be 3-5 multiple choice or short-answer quizzes during the term. These will be short (usually 5-10 questions) and based on the readings.

 Paper: For the paper, you will have to write a research paper of 5-15 pages on an archaeological problem. Your mark (worth 15 percent of your final grade) will be based on your summary of past research, clear statement of the problem, and indication of how you would approach a solution.
