
Professor and Chair of the Department of Anthropology and
Archaeology at Brooklyn College CUNY, Professor Bankoff has
over 35 years of archaeological laboratory and fieldwork
experience. He has directed excavations and field schools
in New York, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Israel and Cyprus. At
the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission since 1997, he
oversees review and approval of sites, research designs and
results of archaeological work in the city. As director of
BC-ARC he has supervised the fieldwork and laboratory
analyses of more than twenty local sites, most recently the
excavations at City Hall Park.
His most recent excavations abroad have been in Israel,
as the director of the College's Israel: Then and Now
summer program. He has held two Fullbright Research
Fellowships to Yugoslavia, and his projects have been
funded by the NSF, the National Endowment for the
Humanities, the National Geographic Society, IREX, and the
PSC-CUNY Faculty Research Awards Program.
