Michael is a PhD candidate, Chancellor's Fellow,
and Graduate Teaching Fellow (GTF) in Cultural
Anthropology at CUNY Graduate Center. Michael's
research areas include the anthropology of work,
human geography, capital accumulation, and the
state. He is currently conducting research in
the "exurbs" of Northern California, looking at
illegal, informal, and low-wage work in a luxury,
gay, and eco-tourist resort area. Key to this
inquiry are the politics of redevelopment, the
struggle over place, and how economic "crisis"
affects social relations. The aim of this is
research is to formulate an understanding of how
working and unemployed people relate to, struggle
over, and create the world in which we live.
Michael teaches introductory courses to 4-field
Anthropology.
