AQUATIC RESEARCH AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT CENTER



AREAC is located on the campus of Brooklyn College in the Ingersoll Hall Extension. The center is a 15,000 square foot facility dedicated to basic and applied studies of aquatic organisms and the environments they inhabit. it comprises:

  • 10,000 square foot area for the study of saltwater organisms and system;
  • 3,000 square foot area for the study of freshwater studies, with emphasis on the use of fishes belonging to the genus Xiphophorus;
  • 2,000 square foot laboratory equipped to carry out research based on structural analysis, immunochemistry, molecular biology and biochemical assays of hormones, and evaluation of water quality;
  • 400 square feet of library, conference and office space.
