Carlos Cruz was born in 1960 in Cuba. He earned a BA in art history at Havana University in 1983. In 1994 received a Masters degree in social anthropology from IberoAmerican University in Mexico. His awards include Best Curator from the International Association of Art Critics, Humorismo Show, Havana, in 1990, and First Prize in the Herederos de Shango Show, Havana in 1983. In the last fifteen years, he has edited and published magazine articles in many countries. He has also organized events and exhibited internationally. At Brooklyn College, he was awarded a Charles G. Shaw Award for excellence in art in 2000.
