Financial Aid

Students usually apply for student loans to cover their trip cost and tuition.  We urge you to talk to the financial aid office on your campus and start this process as early as possible, before Oct for the winter program and before March for the summer program.

Click the financial aid brochure prepared by the financial aid office of Brooklyn College for detailed information.

Those who are TAP eligible may receive a maximum of 8 semesters as an undergraduate. Some students may opt to use half of one of their eight semesters towards the summer. Those who are PELL eligible and weren't full time during fall or spring semesters may qualify to have PELL funding for the summer.

At Brooklyn College, students should call the financial aid office at 718-951-5816 if you need to clarify any of the aforementioned information.  The financial aid officer would advise each student to meet with a member of the financial aid staff to discuss the individual situation (You can ask to speak to Ms. Grant, Marcus, or others; many in that office attended our China program before).

Non-CUNY students should also speak to an advisor in their college's financial aid office to discuss their options.  Some schools may want to establish a consortium agreement whereby they will use the student's enrollment status with Brooklyn College as the basis for processing any aid for their home school.

STOCS Scholarships

STOCS grants support eligible CUNY undergraduate students to participate in study abroad programs offered during the summer and winter intersession. Please note the following:

1.      Applications should be submitted no later than beginning of March (for summer programs) or beginning of October (for winter programs);

2.      You must include all the required documents with your application. Applications missing documents will be disqualified;

3.      Before submitting the STOCS application, you should first be accepted into our China program in order to qualify for the STOCS scholarship; and

4.      You must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by the deadlines --check with the STOCS office website by clicking this link.

For the STOCS Scholarship Application Form of Summer 2012 China program, click this link here.  The form is also available in the study abroad office on any CUNY campus.

Be sure you also check the link: http://www.cuny.edu/academics/programs/international/students/scholarships.html

Note: STOCS applicants are advised not to count on the STOCS money for the program payments. If you do get an award from the STOCS scholarship, the check normally arrives at Brooklyn College a few weeks after all due dates of the program payments (i.e., 1-2 weeks before departure).  You will need to make your own payments for our program first and reimburse yourself later with the check from the STOCS scholarship (if you get that award).
