Four-Year Program
Peer-led Workshops
Throughout the Freshman and Sophomore years Math and Science
classes will be supported with weekly peer-led
study workshops led by undergraduate upperclassmen who have demonstrated
a
high
level of achievement and excellent communication skills.
Freshman Year
After the Summer Program, participants will begin a course of study in preparation for majoring in a science, math or computer science. In the fall students will take Calculus 1 or 2 and a section of Chemistry 1 exculsively for students in BOSC. In spring, students take Chemistry 2, Calculus 2 or 3, and have the option to add Physics 1.5 and other electives. In conjunction with each of these courses will be a peer-led workshop. BOSC students are also placed in an English 1 and 2 sequence exculsively for BOSC and Teacher Academy students. Other courses will be COREs and electives.
The first semester program of study satisfies CORE requirements for Chemistry/Biology and Mathematics required of all Brooklyn College students.
Following the freshman year students participate in an internship, for which a stipend is given.
Sophomore Year
In the sophomore year students will begin to concentrate on classes in the area that they wish to major in and continue to take CORE and elective classes.
In the summer following the sophomore year participants will be placed in a professional or research internship.
Junior Year
In the fall of the junior year students are required to take a course in Greek and Latin Roots of English words, in preparation for MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, and GRE prep courses that are held in the spring. All BOSC students are required to take the GRE. At this point select participants will have the opportunity to become paid peer tutors to underclassmen in the BOSC program.
In the summer following the junior year students will be placed in a professional or research internship.
Senior Year
In fall of the senior year BOSC will assist students in the application process for graduate school. In the spring students finish their studies at Brooklyn College and graduate.
