| Brooklyn College alumni play a key role in helping to provide a
range of career development services and programs for students and
grads. BC alumni can be invaluable in helping create a new generation
of successful career professionals.
There are many ways successful Brooklyn College alumni can help:
The Alumni Mentor Program matches undergraduates with successful
alumni for career advice in a field of mutual interest. Alumni
may arrange for students to visit their workplace to observe the
environment and activities first hand. The meeting is an information
interview during which alumni mentors share their perspective on
their career fields.
Internships - Alumni
assist students in obtaining paid and/or volunteer part?time and
summer positions in their career fields.
This program focuses on experiential learning, where a student
can "try on" a career for a summer, semester or year.
Alumni are a key source of internship placements for Brooklyn College
students. If you can help BC students get an inside track to internships
in your organization let us know. For information about our internship
program contact Shelley Shapiro, Internship Coordinator at 718
951-5774 or sshapiro@brooklyn.cuny.edu
Internship Stipends - Alumni have been generous in endowing stipends
for unpaid and under-paid internship placements. Without this support,
many Brooklyn College students would be unable to leave their part-time
jobs to take an unpaid or low-paying internship. (Over 80 percent
work at least part-time.) For information about making a donation
to internship stipend support for students or to any other career
services program, contact Bob Oliva, CSW, Director of the Center
for Career Development and Internships at 718-951-5696.
Job Placement Program - Alumni are a major source of job leads
for students and recent grads. In these tough economic times alumni
job leads and hiring can be a real boost to the career success
of Brooklyn College students. BC students are a talented, smart,
ambitious group of young people ready to make their mark in the
world of work.
Participating in the special Senior Recruitment Program that prepares
students for the job search can be a great way of gaining direct
access to graduating Brooklyn College students. For on-campus and
special off-campus recruiting of graduating seniors and grad students
contact Fred Balsam, Senior Recruitment coordinator at 718?951?5696
or fbalsam@brooklyn.cuny.edu. You can also register for eRecruiting,
our new employer database that allows students direct access to
potential employers.
To let us know how you can help Brooklyn College students, fill
out the Alumni Response Form. A member of the career staff will
be in touch with you to discuss how your needs.
