Brooklyn College
City University of New York

CORE 1 REQUIREMENTS

All reading assignments must be read before class. There are two exams: a midterm and final. Some instructors give quizzes. Three writing assignments are required: a short diagnostic paper at the beginning of the term and two longer essays (700-1000 words each). All essays written outside of class must be independently researched, typewritten, and submitted promptly on the due date. A cash prize is awarded for the best Core Studies 1 essay each term. The Brooklyn College Learning Center can provide trained tutors to assist students needing help with their writing assignments. The Center is located in 1300 Boylan (951-5821).

Students must attend class regularly and punctually. If a student is absent without excuse for more than the equivalent of one week of classes, or frequently late, the student's grade in the course will be lowered.

Ask your instructor also about the availability of peer tutors - fellow students who have taken Core 1 and can help you with the course.
