B.S. IN ACCOUNTING DO IT YOURSELF CHECKLIST (January 2010)

STUDENT'S NAME_____________________________________________________

In addition to the requirements below, accounting majors must satisfy all other Brooklyn College requirements for graduation (e.g., Core, Speech 3, foreign language).  ACCT 14W is a writing-intensive ("W") course.  Note the new requirements effective Spring 2009:  You must earn a grade of C or better in all ACCT courses.  Otherwise, you cannot graduate with an accounting degree.  This requirement is only for accounting majors -- Public Accounting (Code = 003) and non-CPA (Code = 004).  Students applying to take the CPA exam after July 31, 2009 must satisfy the new NY State requirements which include a minimum of 120 semester hours of coursework.  A graduate degree is not necessary, but is recommended.

Please note that if you wish to double major in Accounting and BMF (Business, Management, and Finance), you will only need to take 6 additional courses:  Eco/Bus  31.1, Bus  31.4\CIS 10.31, Bus 50.1, Bus 50.2, Bus 40.3, and an 80.x seminar.   This double major will satisfy the 150-credit requirement to receive your license; you will also require only one year of CPA work experience.  Accounting majors should also consider an internship (a p/t or f/t job in accounting is even more valuable).  If you are interested in an internship, please go to the Magner Center for Career Development and Internships in 1305 James.
