B.S. in Business, Management, and Finance
BMF DEGREE REQUIREMENTS CHECK LIST (16 COURSES)
(developed by Dr. Hirakubo; June 2009)

To Accounting majors:  Please note that if you wish to double major in BMF and Accounting, you will only need to take 6 additional courses:  
Eco/Bus 31.1, Bus 31.4, Bus 50.1, Bus 50.2, Bus 40.3, and an 80.x seminar.
 

To BMF majors:  Please note that if you wish to double major in BMF and Accounting (NON-CPA Track; code = 004), you will only need to take the 
following courses:
  ACCT 2, 3, 5, 7, 21, 30; and one of the following: ACCT 10, 11, 14W, or 31.   
For the CPA track (Code=003),  take ACCT 2, 3, 5, 7, 21, 30, 10, 11, 14W, and 41.  
Also, make sure to take CIS 5.2, not CIS 1.5; and Philo 14 or Speech 23, not the other alternatives. You also need to take either Bus 70.3 or Bus/Eco 70.1 to satisfy 
the finance requirements for the Accounting major.

Business Core (13 COURSES)
_____ Economics 10.1 or Business 10.1--Elementary Macroeconomics (prereq is Core Math or Sophomore Status)
_____ Economics 20.1 or Business 20.1--Elementary Microeconomics 
(prereq is Core Math or Sophomore Status)
_____ Economics 31.1 or Business 31.1 (microeconomics prerequisite)
OR 
                Math 10.1--
Fundamentals of Mathematical Economics (need one year of calculus for the Math 10.1 course)
                Take the microeconomics course before the 31.1.  We do not waive prereqs.

_____  Bus/Eco 30.2 (Business/Economic Statistics) (prereq is Core Math or Sophomore Status)
               
OR Math 8.1 OR Math 51.1 (Math 8.1 and 51.1 are for students who have taken calculus)
_____Business 50.1-- Introduction to Management (no prerequisite)  
_____ Business 70.2 -- Corporation Financial Management (Acc. 1 prerequisite)
_____  Accounting 1-- Introductory Accounting (no prerequisite)
 
_____  Accounting 40 -- Business Law I (no prerequisite)  
_____  Business 31.4/CIS 10.31--Operations Management
(statistics prerequisite; also, take CIS 5.2 first)
           
We are not going to waive the stat prereq for this course.  Take the Bus 30.2 course first!!!

                Speech 3 does not satisfy this requirement.  
               
If you are double majoring in BMF and Accounting, take Philo 14 or Speech 23 not the other alternatives

Business Electives (2 Courses)
[This change in the business electives takes effect in Fall 2009]
Two additional electives in business not used to satisfy the Business Core or Capstone Seminar requirement. 
To satisfy this requirement, students may take:
(a) any two courses with a business prefix including internships (bus 97.5 and bus 97.6).   
(b) one or two courses with a different  prefix if cross-listed with a business course; for example, CIS 9.2 which is cross-listed with Business 31.3. 
(c) The following courses may also be used to satisfy the business electives requirement:
  
Accounting 2, 7, 21, 30, 41, Computer & Information Science 48, Economics 20.2, 75.2, 76.1, 76.3, Mathematics 74.1, Psychology 12. 

What we suggest you take to satisfy this requirement is two courses in an area that interests you.  For example, if you are interested in finance, take two advanced finance classes such as bus 70.3 and bus 70.5.  
If you are interested in marketing, take two advanced marketing classes such as bus 50.7 and bus 50.9.  See the list below for "Useful courses for students interested in..."

Useful courses for students interested in finance/investments:  Bus 70.3, Bus 70.4, Bus 70.5, BUS 70.7 (needs calculus), Eco 70.1, Bus 71, Bus 72, Bus/Eco 30.3, 
Eco 76.1, and Bus 80.2 (additional accounting courses are also very helpful).
Useful courses for students interested in management:  Bus 50.3, Bus 50.4, Bus 50.5, Bus 50.8, Bus 52, Bus 80.1, and Bus 80.3.

Useful courses for students interested in international business: Bus 76.4, Bus 76.5, Bus 40.4, Bus 51, Bus 31.5, and Eco 76.1 (a foreign language is a big plus).
Useful courses for students interested in marketing: 
Bus 31.5, Bus 50.7, Bus 50.9, Bus 51, Bus 76.4, Bus 76.5, TV/R 19, Bus 80.4.
Useful courses for students interested in Law and Real Estate:  Acc 41, Bus 50.3, Bus 70.2, Bus 70.3, Bus 71, Bus 72.

Accounting, BMF, or economics majors are not eligible for the minor in finance (037).
