Puerto Rican/Latino Studies (PRLS) and Business

(36 credits)

American business is becoming increasingly global and multinational. The role of U.S. Latinos in
small business, international corporations and in booming sectors such as music and the
entertainment industry has increased dramatically. Within the decade, Hispanic origin population
will exceed 40 million and their impact on American business as consumers and contributors to
the corporate world will be substantial. This program provides students with background in

Latino/Latin American business. An in-depth knowledge about U.S. Latinos within a
transnational context, paired with a concentration in Business, Management and Finance and a
research/field component in PRLS will give students the opportunity to pursue careers in this
area.

Requirements:

PRLS 24 (Borderlines and Homelands in the U.S. Cubans
Experience),
PRLS 55 (Economic Development of Puerto Rico and Migration under capitalism) 
PRLS 74 (Emerging Realities and Alternatives for Puerto Ricans and Other Latinos in the United States)
BUS 76.4 (International Business and Marketing).

2. Four of the following:
Caribbean Studies 1.1 (Major Themes in Caribbean Studies) or Africana Studies 37.2,
PRLS 19 (Women in Puerto Rican and Latin American Societies),
PRLS 20 (Latin America) or Anthropology 68 (Latin America),
PRLS 32 (Puerto Rican Communities in the U.S.: Settlement and Evolution),
PRLS 37.1 (Latinos in the Media),

PRLS 75 (Research Seminar in Puerto Rican Studies),
