English Composition 1012: Seminar in Expository Writing (3 hours, 3 credits) makes up the second half of the Freshman Composition requirement for all Brooklyn College students. This course provides students with an opportunity to explore a particular subject in depth and further develop skills of critical thinking, research techniques, and clear expression for academic writing. Students should take English 1012 directly after completing English 1010. The course is writing intensive. Topics are chosen by the individual instructors. The course culminates in the writing of a seven to ten page MLA or APA formatted research paper. Students are permitted to take English 1012 a maximum of two times. Prerequisite: English 1010 or placement based on transfer evaluation.
