BACHELOR of SCIENCE in GEOLOGY |
The Bachelor of Science
in Geology program is designed for students who intend to pursue careers in geoscience
and/or continue their geological education at the graduate level. B.S.
degree program in Geology (61 to 62.5 credits) - Geology
1 (General Geology I), 2.2 (General Geology II), 12 (Field Mapping
), 13.53 (Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology), 17.01 (Mineralogy),
22W (Geological Problems and Opportunities in Urban Areas), 28.1 (Introduction
to GIS), 31.1 (Invertebrate Paleontology), 36.11 (Sedimentology
and Sedimentary Petrology), and 41.1 (Structural Geology)
- At
least 6 additional credits in geology courses numbered 10 or above
- Chemistry
1, or its equivalent, and Geology 32 or 32.5 (Introduction to Geochemistry
or Environmental Geochemistry)
- Mathematics

The Bachelor of Arts in
Geology program is designed for students who intend to pursue careers as earth
science teachers (grades 7-12), or fields related to geology and the environment
(e.g., policy, conservation). B.A.
degree program in Geology (36 to 37.5 credits) - Geology
(General Geology I), 2.2 (General Geology II), 17.01 (Mineralogy),
22W (Geological Problems and Opportunities in Urban Areas), 36.11 (Sedimentology
and Sedimentary Petrology), and 41.1 (Structural Geology)
- At
least six credits in geology courses numbered 10 or above
- Chemistry
1 or its equivalent
- Mathematics
3.3, or Computer and Information Science 1.5
All
required geology courses numbered 10 or higher must be completed with a grade

| BACHELOR
of ARTS, EARTH SCIENCE TEACHER |
| The
School of Education and the Department of Geology intend to jointly offer a program
for students who plan to teach earth science in grades 7 through 12. The program
is being considered currently by NYSED. Until the program is approved at the state
level, students intending to be earth science teachers should register for the
BA degree program in Geology and include GEOL 33.2 as one of their geology electives
numbered 10 or above. Program
requirements (65 to 66.5 credits) - Geology
(General Geology I), 2.2 (General Geology II), 17.01 (Mineralogy),
22W (Geological Problems and Opportunities in Urban Areas), 31.1 (Invertebrate
Paleontology), 33.2 (Meteorology); 36.11 (Sedimentology and Sedimentary
Petrology), and 41.1 (Structural Geology)
- At
least six additional credits in geology courses numbered 10 or above
- Chemistry
1 or its equivalent
- Mathematics
3.3, or Computer and Information Science or 1.5
- The
following pedagogical courses: Education 16, 34, 64.1, 69, 71.04, 72.04. These
courses are described in the "Education" section of this Bulletin. Also
consult the "Education" section for specific grade requirements for
the degree program for earth science teacher.
These
program requirements meet the revised teacher certification regulations adopted
by the New York State Board of Regents in 2000. |

in GEOLOGY |
| A
program of 12 credits of advanced electives in geology (courses numbered 10 or
above), each completed with a grade of C-, or higher, at Brooklyn College. |
