A Message from the Dean

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as Dean for Brooklyn College. I have been on the College faculty for many years. Between 1995 and 1998 and 2002 - 2004 I served two terms as acting dean of Graduate Studies and Research, so I am thoroughly familiar with both its vibrant community of dedicated faculty and outstanding students, and the operations of the Graduate Division. Brooklyn College has a well-deserved reputation for excellence. There are more than five hundred full-time faculty members committed to instructing, guiding, and mentoring our 3,500 graduate students. The presence of many outstanding scholars in the faculty ranks—recognized authorities in their disciplines—adds to the value of the education that students receive at Brooklyn College. It is no wonder that the Princeton Review ranked us number three for the “best bang for your buck.” Many of our graduate students have made remarkable accomplishments that merit recognition. Together, these students and our faculty and administration contribute to a stimulating atmosphere of intellectual, academic, and cultural pursuits, building the best education that a public institution can offer. The Brooklyn College Library offers graduate students a unique opportunity to conduct scholarly research with the most advanced technological tools in the City University of New York. Other facilities, such as the Library Café, the Woman’s Center, and the Learning Center, are designed to accommodate the busy lives of our students. The Office of Research and Graduate Studies also offers a number of brochures and workshops to assist students in meeting their particular needs, from writing theses to taking comprehensive examinations to career planning.
