Special Baccalaureate Program

The Special Baccalaureate Degree Program is a pioneering, highly selective program for adults who have succeeded in business, government, or other occupations without the benefit of a college degree.

Students enter the program in the fall semester and remain together as a group for three years.  After the first year, students usually begin taking courses in their major.  Special Bacc students who are able to attend classes during the day may major in any subject area in which Brooklyn College offers a degree.  Students who attend only evenings may major in one of eleven areas: accounting; business, management, and finance; computer and information science; education; english; health and nutrition sciences; mathematics; philosophy; political science; psychology, or sociology.

Students who are able to document “life experience” equivalent to a course taught at Brooklyn College may apply to receive credit for that class.  Special Bacc students may receive up to thirty-two life experience credits.    There is an entrance examination for this program.
