ISAM, in conjunction with the Ph.D./D.M.A. Program in Music and Continuing Education & Public Programs at the CUNY Graduate Center, City Lore, and the Association for Cultural Equity is proud to announce a two day conference and concert in honor of the late folk music pioneer Alan Lomax.

A distinguished group of folklorists, ethnomusicologists, and social historians will come together to assess the impact of Alan Lomax's activities as a folk music collector, promoter, record/ radio/ TV producer, and popular writer. Emphasis will be on Lomax's efforts to foster public awareness and appreciation of American and world folk music during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, and his crucial role in the early urban folk music revival.



Three Panel Sessions will focus on:

- Recording the Folk: The early southern field recording projects

- Promoting the Folk: The 1940s and the early folk music revival in New York City

- Folk Music as Poetry: The Lomax perspective*
