García-Aguilera’s
diverse life experiences included a childhood in Cuba, her native country, working
in Asia, and living in the United States. These events and an interest in Hispanic
history and culture helped this mystery writer fashion her alter ego, Lupe Solano,
a Cuban American private eye. García-Aguilera came to live in the U.S.
at the age of ten. She studied at Rollins College in Florida, earned an M.A. at
Georgetown University, and an M.B.A from the University of South Florida. She
became a private investigator working in Miami, Florida, and conceived the idea
of writing mystery novels with a protagonist similar to herself. The award-winning
Lupe Solano series, translated into eight languages, gained international acclaim.
García-Aguilera continues to write about Lupe and writes for film and television
as well.
