Hector Rivera (Hec1) is a songwriter, performer, and community organizer. From 1990 to 2006 Hec1 was founder of the Welfare Poets of New York a collective of activists, educators, and artists. During 2006 - 2007 he was a member of Nuestro Tambor in Chicago, Illinois. Currently he performs solo, and with Grupo Yuba, a Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena group in Chicago. Hec 1 performs and writes in diverse genres including Hip Hop, Bomba y Plena, Latin Jazz and other rhythms.
