HERRERA,
CAROLINA (1939 )
Herrera
was born to a wealthy and prominent family in Caracas, Venezuela but she became
an internationally known figure with the founding of her fashion house. Although
she was raised in the milieu of the well-to-do, Herrera was interested in fashion
design and the working end of the business since she was a girl. In time, she
worked with leading designers and learned the business. After raising four daughters,
Herrera embarked upon a professional career. She opened Carolina Herrera, Ltd.
selling on the high end of the scale and a more affordable CH line. Inducted into
the Fashion Hall of Fame, Herrera has received numerous honors for her work and
has designed outfits for First Ladies, Jacqueline Onassis and Nancy Reagan.
