  MARTÍNEZ, AGUEDA SALAZAR (1898–2000)
Doña Agueda inspired generations of weavers, many of whom have become award-winning artists in their own right. A renowed weaver of Chimayó style blankets, she received the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1975. Two years later, a documentary film about her life, Agueda Martínez: Our People, Our Country, produced by Montezuma Esparza, received an Academy Award nomination. Recognized and awarded for her artistic production, her works are in many prominent public and private collections, including the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe.
