Department of Modern Languages and Literatures
4239 Boylan Hall
718-951-5451
Welcome The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, located in one of the most culturally and linguistically diverse areas of the United States, offers students the training and skills necessary to communicate with their neighbors in the Arabic, Chinese, Creole, French, German, Italian, Russian and Spanish-speaking communities in Brooklyn and abroad. A major or minor in languages, literature and culture equips a student with marketable skills and opportunities for success in such areas as law, medicine, international relations, business, finance, government, publishing, social work, the arts, nonprofits, and public and private schools and colleges. The Department continues to develop and train excellent language teachers in French, Italian and Spanish for K-12 education in the Department's Undergraduate Program and in the Graduate Master's Degree Programs in French and Spanish. A doctorate in French, Spanish and Italian-Comparative Literature is offered by the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Cross bridges culturally and linguistically with the opportunities you will receive in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.
