The program is Sports Management has been designed to prepare
students for administrative positions in a sports or athletics enterprise. The
actual jobs can vary from administering an athletic program in a public or
private secondary school or at the level of an intercollegiate program.
Other possibilities could include employment with a professional
franchise. Matters dealing with finance, personnel, contracts, and
scheduling could be some of the job responsibilities.
Almost a third of the courses are offered
through the Economics department to expose students to the business side of
the program. In addition to the course requirements in the Physical Education
and Exercise Science Department, an Internship course is provided to allow
students exposure to a real work situation. In this way, students can better
understand the theoretical concepts learned in their course work. In addition,
each job site produces it's own challenges that each student can learn from,
and take with them, long after the internship has ended.
During the first year, students should plan to take no more than 6 credits
each semester and 3 credits during the summer (usually PE 743X). One of those
