The graduate program offers advanced study in pedagogy. The
emphasis is in preparing teachers for the elementary, junior high and senior
high school levels. The program is suitable for the teacher already teaching
in a system and needs a Master's degree for self-improvement as well as for
professional advancement.
As well, many individuals who are seeking a career
change can be become certified as a teacher by taking additional undergraduate
credits for matriculation and the graduate courses required in this program.
Students are advised to take no more than 6 credits each semester and 3
credits in the summer for each year of two years. The program should include
12 credits from the School of Education as outlined on the website. PEES 792X
should be taken after 24-27 credits have been completed.

Thesis acceptable to the department.
Matriculation Requirements
Applicants must have successfully completed at least 18
credits in all of the following areas: Philosophical Perspectives of
Physical Education (philosophy or history), Behavioral Perspectives (motor
learning, sport psychology, or sociology of sport), Movement Perspectives
(kinesiology or biomechancs), and Human Physiology. In addition, 6 credits
in the theory and practice of teaching and coaching are required for
matriculation.
ALL OF THESE REQUIREMENTS MUST BE SATISFACTORILY MET BY THE
TIME 15 GRADUATE CREDITS ARE COMPLETED.
