Dr. Shanley was appointed Dean of the School of Education at Brooklyn College
in 1998. Prior to coming to Brooklyn College she was Dean of The School Of
Liberal Arts and Education at Medgar Evers College, CUNY where she maintained an
active research agenda on behavioral analysis and education and introduced major
curriculum changes, working in partnership with the liberal arts and science
faculty and with the department of education. Her work with multiple college and
community constituencies earned her a Humanitarian Award from the CUNY
Consortium for the Study of Disabilities and the Medgar Evers College Worker
Education Program.
Dean Shanley brings to Brooklyn College an activist perspective on teacher
education reform and a passion for improving teaching and learning in the public
schools. Her current work focuses on the uses of a variety of technological
opportunities, including TV, radio, and computers for instructional
purposes. Dr. Shanley was instrumental in creating a state-of-the-art computer
classroom in the School of Education to help integrate technology into
pre-service and in-service teacher education.
