We have just begun a new semester in the twos’
classroom. For most of our children, their new classroom is not a
totally new environment. Many of them moved up from the ones and
ones plus classrooms and attended during the summer. We have
activities that reflect their growth. Art remains a favorite for the
twos. They show great interest in exploring shapes, colors, and
textures.
Haley
Haley used crayons to drew various lines while
creating a symmetrical pattern

Vincent
Vincent made a collage
with layers of
various felt shapes.

When we are together,
you cannot tell who has been here,
or who just came because we
help each other feel comfortable.
One child said to another, “Your
mommy will come back”
As she pats him on the back.
We love music, books and enjoy digging for worms in
the playground. We are now experimenting with colors, especially
after reading Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Leoni. The
favorite part of the day is group time. We sing songs, discuss the
weather, guess what’s for breakfast and identify each other’s names.
We are a bunch of terrific threes who are enjoying each other’s
company.
Jacob
That one (red) is me, and this one (blue) is
my brother Eric. We are holding hands and walking to a movie. We are
going to see Pokemon.
Tiana
This is my father. He has a nose, a mouth and
brown eyes. He is walking.

As
we begin the spring 2008 semester, the children have
been busy
working together, establishing new friendships with their new peers and teachers. We have been talking a lot about
responsibilities or "Jobs" that the children have at
school and at home. These discussions have helped us put together a
new job chart with fresh, exciting, and meaningful jobs. During our
meetings and conversations with the children they have worked
together on choosing new assignments for our up-and-coming
restaurant/cafe. So far we have began to create jobs within the
restaurant, a floor plan,
and the types of foods that we will be
serving. Along with our restaurant, we plan on having the children
help cook one breakfast meal a week, to gain a better understanding
of the process so that they can apply it to their learning during
this study.
