Eleanor Miele joined the faculty at Brooklyn College in1998.  She received her B.S. in genetics from Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Science and her Ph.D. in molecular biology from Columbia University.  Dr. Miele taught for sixteen years in the Columbia University Science Honors Program for high school students and is committed to improving science teaching in grades K-12.

She is the program head of the masters program in Childhood Science and Environmental Education.  She also serves as the Interdepartmental Coordinator for the Masters Program in Middle Childhood General Science and the undergraduate concentration in General Science.  She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in childhood science education and general science.  Professor Miele is the the appointed faculty advisor  and curriculum leader for science at the 
CUNY Teacher Academy at Brooklyn College.

Her interests include partnerships with informal science institutions in teacher preparation and learning outside the classroom.  Partners include the American Museum of Natural History and the Bronx Zoo.   Professor Miele is also the Co-director of the CUNY partnership with the National Parks of New York Harbor Education Center at Fort Wadsworth.

She has received numerous external awards to support improved preparation of science teachers at all levels.  TRUST: Teacher Renewal for Urban Science Teachers with the American Museum of Natural History  and  Lehman College was a five year program to infuse informal instruction in the preparation of Earth Science Teachers. Current NSF-funded projects Brooklyn Outreach for Science Careers and Science and the City, a geoscience education grant from the NSF to improve preparation of Earth Science teachers in collaboration with the Geology Department.  The college named Professor Miele a Leonard and Claire Tow Professor of Education for 2006-2008.
