Recipients of Noyce
Scholars funding must commit to completion of two years as a
mathematics or science teacher for each year the scholarship is received.
This service requirement must be completed within 8 years after graduation
from the program for which the scholarship was awarded. The service
requirement must be performed in a high-need local educational agency as
defined in section 201 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (20 USC 1021).
This act states:
The term “high need local educational agency” means a local educational agency that serves a elementary or secondary school located in an area in which there is:
a high percentage of individuals from families with incomes below the poverty line;
a high percentage of secondary school teachers not teaching in the content area in which the teachers were trained to teach; or
a high teacher turnover rate
It will be incumbent upon each scholarship recipient following graduation to inform BC each year of current address and the previous year’s employment. The recipients will be required to submit proof of employment and indicate how the employing educational agency meets the requirements of being "high need."
