Professor
Duboys earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics at Brooklyn
College, a Master
of Science degree at Hunter College, and a doctorate at Fordham
University.
Before
coming to teach in the student teaching program,
she taught third, fourth, and sixth grades in Brooklyn public
schools. She has taught a variety of courses that include
Foundations of Education, Communication Arts, Social Studies,
Literacy, and Student Teaching. She also teaches Curriculum
and Instruction in the Graduate Program in Childhood Education.
Her
areas of expertise are in social studies education, methodology,
and student teaching.
She has focused upon the ways in which teachers interpret
the social science disciplines in their classrooms, upon interdisciplinary
curriculum development, and collaborative learning.
Her
research interests include multicultural education, social
justice and the uniqueness of childhood during the period
of slavery in America, and during the Holocaust.
Prof.
Duboys has served on a number of School of Education and Brooklyn
College Committees. These include but are not limited to work
in the area of standards, admission and retention of students,
faculty-student relations, course and standing, and the Committee
on Review, which she chairs.
She is also involved in issues of diversity, and has
worked with other faculty to support scholarships for students.
She serves on the Graduate Scholarship Committee.
She is also on the board of the Early Childhood Center
Program, a member of the board of the Brooklyn College Association,
and was recently elected Leader of the Manhattan Chapter
of Compassionate Friends for a two-year
term beginning Jan 1, 2004. She is Chairperson
of the Professional Staff Congress at Brooklyn College.
