Bilingual School Counseling Track

A Bilingual School Counseling track has been developed, with nine (9) additional credits in the content area along with field experience in a bilingual setting. Advanced theoretical and practical training includes issues related to immigration, intercultural communication, second-language, multicultural counseling, and career development with ethnic minorities. Qualified bilingual students speaking any of the 135 languages represented by the New York City Public School System student body would be considered for this specialization.

Requirements
The New York City Department of Education requires fluency in the second language. Students are required to obtain passing scores on the Target Language Proficiency Assessment (TLPA) and the English Language Proficiency Assessment or the Non-classroom Personnel (ELPAN-N), examinations required by the New York State Education Department.
