Lisa Novemsky has more than 25 years
experience as a teacher, college professor, program director, and researcher.
She has a strong background in science education, early childhood education,
interdisciplinary curriculum, arts-centered and aesthetic education, music,
reasoning and critical thinking, somatic education, and philosophy for children.
Her broad base of experience in urban education includes directing and
coordinating urban outreach projects and a program specifically designed for
gifted young women with an interest in science, and engineering. Her research
interests include "second teaching" and language factors in physics
learning and in early childhood play.
Her
curiosity about how people think and learn has led her into studies in the
sciences, cognitive psychology, human development, the arts and aesthetics, and
education. Her professional mission has been focused on understanding the
processes underlying learning, especially in historically underrepresented
groups, and helping people take themselves out of their usual habits and
patterns of thought and action in order to open up to new possibilities.
