Productions

The Brooklyn College Theater Department produces nine to ten shows a year--four Mainstage productions in the proscenium-style, 488-seat George Gershwin Theater and six "black box" productions in the 120-seat New Workshop Theater--directed by faculty and MFA directing candidates. These shows provide undergraduate and graduate students plenty of hands-on experience in all phases of theatrical production. This production activity also provides cultural enrichment for the community, which has shown great appreciation and support for departmental productions.

Talking With... Series
The Department of Theater often accompanies its productions with a guest speaker—either from within Brooklyn College or from some other institution--who discusses the play, sometimes with a panel, and with the audience participating in a question and answer session. Dates, times, and places are announced in subscriber newsletters and on this Web site. Past guests have included David Marshall Grant, Tony nominee for Angels in America; Ruben Santiago Hudson, from the original production of Seven Guitars; and theatrical scholars/critics of national standing, including David Savran, who spoke about Tennessee Williams following a production of The Glass Menagerie.
