Niluka Hotaling (Brooklyn College)

Ms. Hotaling works as a designer and craftsman for theatre companies in NYC. She served as resident set designer for the Theatre Department at Henry Street Settlement Abron’s Art Center (2002-2009); Four Chairs Theatre Company (2006-2009); and newfangled theatReR (2005- current), where she is also a founding member.

Ms. Hotaling has designed set and lighting for a multitude of theatre and dance companies including Barefoot Theatre Company, Arts Connection; Artis Smith Dance Troupe; The Mango Tribe; White Horse Theatre Company; The Sackett Group; The New School; Brooklyn Children’s Theatre, Brooklyn College; and productions that appeared in The NY Fringe Festival and Horse Trade’s Frigid Festival, to name a few.

She has worked for Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts, Lincoln Center Institute, Daryll Roth Theatre, New Federal Theatre, Gray Wig, The Mortals Theatre Company and various scene shops and individual productions as a carpenter, scenic painter and stage technician.

She was the production stage manager for Spiegel LP’s acclaimed circus productions Absinthe (2007, NYC) and Desir (2008, NYC) and has stage managed Opera Productions for the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College for the past few years.

She recently served as Assistant Set Designer and Technical Director for the world premiere of From the Fire composed by Elizabeth Swados and written by Cecilia Rubino and Paula Finn for the 100th anniversary of the Triangle Shirt Waist Factory Fire.

Ms. Hotaling is a recipient of an Individual Artists Grant from NYSCA in 2005 for her set design work at Henry Street Settlement and is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829 in the Set Design category. She currently teaches Drafting, Stagecraft, Intro to Theatre Production and Props Construction for the Theatre Department at Brooklyn College
