The New York State Haitian Bilingual/ESL Technical Assistance Center (HABETAC) @ Brooklyn College is one of 14 Bilingual Education Technical Assistance Centers (BETAC) contracted by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).  In 1993, NYSED, the City College of New York School of Education Bilingual Program joined to create the HABETAC @ City College.  Located today at Brooklyn College, HABETAC continues to pursue its commitment to equity and excellence in the education of New York State Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.  

 

The NYS HABETAC @ Brooklyn College provides technical assistance to districts throughout the State of New York that service Haitian youngsters who are LEP.  To reach its goals, HABETAC sponsors educational activities for educators, parents, community-based organizations and students.  In order to enhance the quality of education for the Haitian LEP students and assist them to reach the higher standards, the HABETAC coordinates statewide activities with NYSED and collaborates with the other BETACs and the New York City Department of Education.
